“When we’re young, and we dream of love and fulfillment, we think perhaps of moon-drenched Parisian nights or walks along the beach at sundown. No one tells us that the greatest moments of a lifetime are fleeting, unplanned and nearly always catch us off guard.”
– Jean Harper

“For me fashion is a freedom”
Education: Med student
Where do you live? In Paris
Where did I spot you? In the metro heading to Gare du Nord.
I was sitting in the metro when I saw this big black hood sticking out from the crowd. “I have to know what he looks like from the front”, I was thinking, maybe too loud. It was like the big black hood sensed what I was up to and it got out at the same stop as mine and then I began chasing after it like a wolf.
Hi! I won’t bite you, you look fashionable.
Ely: “I’ve been into fashion just recently actually. For me fashion is a freedom, it’s a way to get out of the med school environment. But mostly it’s a way to express myself. Fashion seems a bit shallow, but it’s important to take care of your appearance and to feel good because of that. As long as you don’t get materialistic, then it’s fine.”
Can you describe your style?
“I like anything dark, drapy and black. I’m not really into basic stuff, I like to stand out. Today my look is somewhat medieval. And I have a fascination for hoods. The bigger, the better.”
Tell me what you’re wearing:
Jacket: Rick Owens
Legging: Katharina Gruber
Glasses: Pour Vos Beaux Yeux. “The glasses are really old, they are from the 30s.”
Lastly, where do you hang out? “At Social Club and ChaCha Club in Paris. And I crash fashion shows with my friends.”
“My grandfather had great style”
Education: Art History
Where do you live? Paris, Metro station Père Lachaise area.
Where did I spot you? At Rue de la Roquette.
“I lived in London for a year for my studies, so this city is still a big inspiration for me. I’m very into vintage clothing. I like to go through my grandfather’s closet. He was into vintage clothing as well and had great style. I was close to my grandfather, he was very dear to me.
I’m now on my way to The Tape. It’s an English pub with rock ‘n’ roll music and it has graffiti on the walls. Other places I go to are Le Marché des Enfants Rouges. It’s a market where you can buy all sorts of foods and vegetables.”
Jacket: “From a vintage shop in New York.”
Cardigan: “My grandfather’s. It’s very old.”
Jeans: The Kooples (French brand)
Shoes: “Belonged to my grandfather’s.”
“I love to shop on the internet”
Education: Graphic Design and Contemporary Art in Paris.
Where do you live? In a suburb of Paris.
Where did I spot you? In le quartier Saint-Paul (Saint-Paul district)
Describe your style: “I don’t have a particular style. I just wear whatever I like.”
What are you wearing? “The coat is a gift from my mom, the vegan leather jacket and jeans are from April77. I got the jeans for 12 euros in a private sale. The scarf is from American Apparel, the ring is from Harpo and I bought the bracelet at Le Sacré Coeur. The shoes are from a Korean web shop, but I don’t know the brand.”
Where do you shop? “I love to shop on the internet. Especially at Topman.com. I also like vintage stores.”
Florian has a very French look, although I can’t put that look into words. It’s just so Parisien, which I like very much. He is donning a few items from the cool vegan(!) Parisian label April77. This means the leather jacket that he’s wearing is totally vegan. It’s a big plus that Florian didn’t care if it’s real leather or not. Vegan is hot. Ok, that was cheesy. The well put together and clean (look at the nice shoes) rock ‘n’ roll look with a nice attention to detail may have added to his Parisien look.
